DIY: Scalloped Fabric Garland

My friend, Paige, and I threw a baby shower for our friend's new little girl.  Paige had a great turquoise tablecloth and she suggested we do orange accents.  We kept things really simple - various cobblers, orange sherbet punch, and coffee.  I made up the garland to match the colors - super fast, under $7, and you can reuse it!

Supplies: (this makes one 12 foot garland)

3 fat quarters (or any leftover scraps)

4 yds bias tape

Directions:

Create a template: Draw a 7.5in circle on paper.  Cut out and fold in half. 

Fold your fabric in half, right sides together. Using your template cut out 17 7.5in half circles. 

With right sides together sew all along the curve.  Do not sew on the straight edge.

Turn right side out and iron flat. 

Repeat with all your half circles.

Fold your bias tape over the straight edge of your first half circle and start sewing.  Add a new half circle every 1.5in (approximately).  

You could do smaller half circles or larger or use wider bias tape. *lots of ways to mix things up!*

DIY: Valentines Paper Heart Garland

I needed some quick Valentines decor so I did a paper garland out of hearts.  It's basically the same as the round paper garland I did for Christine's baby shower - just with hearts! (It took a little longer than the round garland since I don't have a heart hole punch - but still, all in all, less than 30min.)  And I got to test out the sewing machine my husband got me for Christmas! (Works like a charm!  More on the sewing machine when I've learned more about it.)

DIY: Easy Round Paper Garland

I made this for my friend, Christine's, baby shower. This round paper garland is really quick and easy. If you have large hole punches in various sizes it's even easier - but those get expensive. We used three sizes - my 1.5in punch and then hand cut the two larger sizes.

What you need:

assorted paper - great if you have scraps.  I used heavy weight and cardstock.

sewing machine

scissors or round punches

parchment paper (optional)

Leave a long length of thread when you start so you have space to hang it. I placed a small piece of parchment paper underneath the first few circles to get the thread going without getting caught. (But I'm using a very old machine so yours might be fine without!) The parchment paper rips right off.

Continue feeding circles under the needle. You can leave a little space between them if you prefer. When you're done leave extra on the end for hanging. And that's it! Easy!

If you make a smaller version you can use them to wrap presents.
