Feature Flower: Anemone

The anemone, or windflower, comes in lots of colors and varieties. It's available in red, pink, purple, blue, white, and yellow and can look more like a daisy, have lots of petals, or look more like a poppy(as seen above).  Vase life is not that long, ~ 5 days, but it can be extended if you keep them out of direct sunlight, re-cut the stems (cut underwater - water temp should be lukewarm), and use floral food.
Don't you love the black centers?

Caleb and Katie

Katie wanted to use as many local flowers as possible.  Due to a cold spring lilacs were the only flower really blooming. So we picked buckets and buckets of lilacs!  We filled in with stock, lisianthus, larkspur, and leptospermum - focusing on purples and pinks.
Katie's bouquet - hand tied.

Mother of the Bride corsage.
Bridesmaids bouquets. (Katie's bridesmaids were in teal).
Centerpiece.
Groom - lisianthus and larkspur.
Bride and Groom cake - made by Meyers.
Congrats Caleb and Katie Bouma!

DIY: It's A Boy Cupcake Toppers

I'm throwing a baby shower for a friend and I wanted cupcake toppers that said "it's a boy."  I couldn't find any locally so I made these up.  I printed 2 pages at FedEx Office for less than $1.50!  Use 8.5x11 white glossy cardstock. I used a 1.5in hole punch to punch them out.
I'll get the template uploaded soon!

Can't get away from yellow...

Aren't these unique and fabulous?! This wedding was in Southern California and I think the hens and chicks in the bouquet add a lot of charm. All pictures from Style Me Pretty.

Strawberry Chocolate Cupcakes

These cupcakes were fantastic! We made them for our Mother's Day dessert and these would make a great dessert for a party.  With a cake mix base, they are pretty quick and easy.  The recipe's from TidyMom and we made just a few alterations. We wanted to add more strawberry so instead of only using it in the filling, we reduced the butter and water in the batter and added pureed strawberries (all fresh but frozen would work too). We also decreased the amount of cocoa powder in the frosting (simply out of a lack of cocoa powder but it tasted great!). The recipe uses a cake mix so it's a pretty quick dessert that tastes amazing (btw - Duncan Hines is the best cake mix). The strawberry cream tastes so light and fresh. Enjoy!
